A Misty POTA Activation of Frost Folly GB-4277

Already on our third Parks On The Air (POTA) activation attempt of 2026 we assembled at a rather misty Frost Folly GB-4277 at 13:00 GMT. The park was quite busy with lots of dog walkers making a circuit of the park and some popping over on seeing our flag and Gazebo to find out more about what we were doing.

We had three stations, Mick G0MGK running FT8 on his self-built QMX+, Ed M8GSY calling on VHF and Paul M9XPN and Daniel M8LKZ running the FT891 Station. All antennas were verticals.

Mick quickly set-up and had his tablet running FT8 on 20m via his QMX+, PSK Reporter indicating that his signal was being heard in Europe, Iceland, Greenland and the east coast of America.

Ed was soon getting out on VHF with regular contacts from across the local area.

The 40m band was initially very quiet with little response to our calls and little heard across the band. However, this soon picked up and the band was suddenly packed, with Amar M7KQR persevering and building QSO list gradually.

A total of 32 Logged POTA contacts with activations on each of the bands we used made for a successful afternoon. As always a big part of our field events is the chance to catch up with each other, have a great chat, usually radio based and enjoy some radio out in the fresh air.

Thanks to everyone that helped and joined us for a fun Saturday afternoon and to the members of the public that popped over to see what we do.
