BARC & 1st Twyford Scouts’ JOTA 2025 Success!
Bracknell Amateur Radio Club (BARC) recently celebrated a highly successful Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) event, held in collaboration with the 1st Twyford Scout Group who welcomed other local troops to join.
Over 50 Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers received a fantastic introduction to the world of amateur radio, achieving an impressive 196 contacts over the weekend. The airwaves were buzzing as participants connected with fellow Scouts across Europe and as far away as Canada!

Guided by BARC members using both HF (High Frequency) and VHF (Very High Frequency) equipment, the young participants experienced the thrill of global communication first hand. This hands-on event taught them how to operate a radio, use basic “Q” codes, and understand the principles behind antennas. It was a perfect demonstration of amateur radio’s role in fostering international goodwill.
A huge thank you to the leaders of the 1st Twyford Scout Group for their superb organisation, and to the BARC volunteers who shared their expertise and equipment to make the weekend a success.
We’re already excited for JOTA 2026 and another opportunity to share this wonderful hobby with the next generation.
73 (Best Regards) from the BARC Team!
