Early Satellites – Dave G3YMC & Steve G4AUC

Following our presentation earlier this year from Gopan M0XUU on the subject of the OSCAR QO-100 Geostationary Satellite, Dave G3YMC & Steve G4AUC, both long term members of the Club offered to share theor experiences listening for and communicating via some of the very earliest satellites.

Dave introduced us to the very first Satellites from the 1960’s and 70’s, transmitting simpe morse beacons and then on to the OSCAR, EUSTAT and also some of the Russian Satellites accessible to radio Amateurs.

Steve then also shared his experiences communicating through some of these Satellites and also remembered his involvement in the resetting of a Satellite following a programming error left the Satellite deaf.

Thanks to Dave and Steve for a great evening and for sharing their knowledge and memories of their, at the time, leading edge experiences with Satellite comms.

Dave G3YMC has kindly allowed us to make his slides from the evening available HERE.
