Summer Social BBQ
Once again this year, Martin 2E0XBZ and his wife Shirley kindly hosted our Summer Social BBQ at their home in Bracknell.
Following two weeks of hot and humid evenings, the weather on Wednesday 14 August suddenly changed, with the temperature dropping to the seasonal average and on this occasion, on and off rain. As Martin and Shirley have many family BBQs over the summer months, they were very well prepared with 3 Large Gazebos, so we were all under cover.
This year’s event was our largest to date, with 33 Members and their partners joining us. It was really good to meet member’s partners, often mentioned during our radio ‘Nets’, so it was great to be able to meet in-person at last.
It was great that so many of our newer members were able to join us as our busy monthly club meetings often keep us too busy to be able to have a good chat.
A lovely selection of Beers, Wine, Pimms and Soft Drinks were enjoyed and thank you to all that brought drinks along with them.
While Martin and Shirley were preparing a fabulous BBQ we all had the opportunity to browse through the useful items and equipment that members had brough in for sale or to raise funds for our Club.
A Demo Table had also been set-up at the back of the garden where Roy M0WTP demonstrated one of the Pixie 40m CW Transcievers that will be available to buiild at our Construction Club in October. Graham G3TFL set-up his SDRplay SDR, connected to a laptop to show that the little tranciever was sending successfully.
At 9pm it was time to call our Raffle, with two prizes available to win, kindly donated by Carlos M0HBK and Steve G4AUC.
Following the lovely BBQ cooked by Martin, what could be better that an amazing selection of desserts. A big big ‘thank you’ Shirley and everyone that brought along the most amazing homemade cakes, flapjacks and selection of fruit.
Our biggest thank you must go to Martin and Shirley, for hosting our annual summer event once again and for all their hard work preparing the garden, gazebos’, food and drinks, cooking the BBQ and their kind and generous hospitality.
