Contest Logging and Adjudication
The February meeting of the club, held on a rather damp and chilly evening, saw a welcome gathering of members at our new venue. The evening’s presentation, given by Ian G0FCT, addressed the timely subject of accurate QSO logging, a matter of increasing relevance given the club’s growing interest in HF band activity and the numerous contests now taking place.
Ian began by emphasizing that effective logging commences well before the start of any contest. He highlighted the necessity of becoming proficient with one’s radio and logging software, thus ensuring that QSOs and entries can be recorded in real-time and without error.
The availability of a wide array of logging programs and applications was discussed, with Ian underscoring the importance of selecting a program that aligns with the specific requirements of the contests in which members intend to participate. He noted that the appropriate choice of software can significantly streamline the logging process.
Furthermore, Ian stressed the significance of meticulous log checking, conversion, and timely submission in the correct format, prior to the contest cut-off date. These steps are crucial for ensuring a smooth submission and entry.

The presentation was followed by a lively question and answer session, during which Ian addressed queries from both experienced contest participants and those new to the field. His insights were well-received, and the discussion proved informative for all present.
Ian has kindly allowed us to include a downloadable copy of his slides from the evening in .PDF format HERE.
Thanks to Ian for another useful and interesting presentation and good luck to all those joining-in the great many contests available during the coming year.
